What is the Brick Calculator?
A brick calculator gives the number of standard bricks needed for a wall of given length, height and thickness, plus a wastage allowance. It uses the standard Indian modular brick size (190 × 90 × 90 mm with 10 mm mortar joints).
Formula
Bricks = (Wall volume / Brick volume with mortar) × (1 + wastage %)
- Brick volume with mortar — 0.0020 m³ per brick (with 10 mm joints)
Step-by-step example
Setup: 10 m long × 3 m high × 0.23 m thick wall, 5% wastage.
- Volume = 6.9 m³
- Bricks = 6.9 / 0.0020 = 3,450
- × 1.05 wastage = 3,623
Answer: ≈ 3,623 bricks
Frequently asked questions
What wastage should I assume?
5–10% for standard sites; higher for irregular walls or untrained masons.
Does this work for AAC blocks?
No — AAC blocks are larger (600×200×200 mm). Use a separate AAC calculator.
